Title : Fabrication and investigation of the impact of sintering temperature on micro hardness of Fe20Cr20Mn20 Ni20 Ti10Co5V5

Abstract:

This paper reports on the effect of sintering temperature on the density and hardness of Fe20Cr20Mn20Ni20Ti10Co5V5 high entropy alloy, fabricated using spark plasma sintering process. The constituent powders were weighed and mixed for 9 hours in a tubular mixer and sintered at temperatures of 870oC, 900oC and 950oC and compacted at a pressure of 50 MPa in a FCT Systeme® spark plasma-sintering machine. Samples sintered at 950oC showed higher relative density and Vickers hardness of 674 Vickers compared to those sintered at 870oC and 900oC of 424 and 374 Vickers respectively. The micrography of the samples showed that the density of particles in sintered parts showed that it has highest compaction density at higher sintering temperatures.

Mr. Chikumba studied Industrial engineering at the NUST University, Zimbabwe and graduated as MEng in 2002.

He currently is a Senior Lecturer and is studied for a PhD in Physics at university of South Africa.
