Biosensors with a nanocomposite electrode, immobilised enzymes, ZnO nanoparticle/glucose oxidase, osmium complex and glucose oxidase, microencapsulated enzyme in a hydrophobic synthetic latex sheet, and platinum nanowire array biosensor are some of the biosensor fabrications that have been demonstrated. Other fabrication methods for biosensors mentioned include MI (for a potentiometric protein biosensor), polymer microarray on chip, inkjet printing technology for an optical fibre imaging sensor, processable polyaniline nanoparticles-based biosensors, and biosensor fabrication based on screen printing technology (DNA chips with an electrical readout for the detection of viral DNA). Microband glucose biosensors, disposable screen-printed electrodes, charge-transfer-based biosensors, dip-strip test system construction, silicon nanowire biosensor fabrication based on recrystallization technologies, and porous silicon-based biosensors are some examples of the types of biosensors that are currently being developed. Other biosensor fabrication techniques would be created in the future that would be more suited for the detection of analytes in solution and in the gas phase.
