A technique in metallurgy called electrometallurgy uses electrical energy to electrolyze metals to manufacture them. It often comes after pyrometallurgical or hydrometallurgical processes since it is the final stage of the manufacture of metal. the electrode, for instance, used in the Hall-Hérault process to convert aluminium oxide into aluminium. Electrolysis can be used to reduce a metal from an aqueous metal salt solution created by hydrometallurgy, as well as a last refining stage in the manufacturing of pyrometallurgical metals (electrorefining) (electrowinning). The study of metal electrodeposition processes is known as electrometallurgy. These procedures fall into four categories:
Electrolysis
The process of electrowinning, which removes metal from ores
The process of electroplating, in which one metal is deposited on top of another
Making metal through electroforming, which produces typically thin metal
