Green materials are those that are renewable and local. Local materials are frequently specific to a location and link everything that people create there. Green materials are those that come from the earth and are found there, such as clay, sand, and stone. Humans also construct homes, items, and places out of grasses, straw, wood, and bamboo. Rapidly growing plant materials are often renewable. Reclaimed materials are those that can be put to new uses while still in their original form. Reclaimed materials are environmentally friendly since they may be reused and used. Recyclable materials are those that can be processed or repurposed to go from being garbage to being utilised again. Modern definitions of "green materials" include those that are non-toxic, enhance occupant health, are more affordable, and reduce energy, water, and trash production. Materials that do not affect the environment, consumers of the material, or producers of the material are said to be non-toxic materials. Green materials are those that need less energy during manufacturing, transportation, and usage than they do during harvesting or gathering. Together with chemical and biological engineers, material scientists develop new and improved materials.
